Mission Bay High School is known for its academic rigor but also offers a highly competitive athletic program where students stand out in all disciplines. With the spring sports season coming to a close, Mission Bay had numerous teams post excellent records.

The track and field team (above) had a record-breaking season and finished with a 5-1 record. The boys track team won the Div. III CIF championship for the second consecutive season and the girls track and the team finished third in the CIF final. Three members of the team competed at the state level: freshman Chris A, and juniors Brandon C. and Justin R. Chris A. is the only blind track runner in California competing at the high school level. He runs in the 100-meter and 200-meter races and was nationally recognized.

Girls swimming earned a 7-1 record over the 2023 season. They were also champions of the City League for the third year in a row. Team captain junior Sydney J. is “Incredibly proud of all the hard work the team put in” and hopes to continue the winning streak into future seasons.

Boys tennis also had a successful season, with a 12-3 record. The team qualified for CIF playoffs in Div. I and junior team captain David A. qualified for the quarterfinals. “We had a fantastic season this year,” he said. “We are always looking to improve. Next year we are hoping to win our school’s first CIF championship for tennis.”
