Schools are one of the biggest reasons families choose Poway. The city is served by Poway Unified School District, one of the most sought-after districts in the county. Combined with safe, established neighborhoods and plenty of parks, that makes Poway a common choice for families planning to stay for the long term.

Neighborhoods range from Old Poway, near the city's historic center and Old Poway Park, to Green Valley's larger homes on hillside lots and the golf community of StoneRidge. The Garden Road area offers rural lots, many with room for horses. Homes run from 1970s ranch houses to newer estates, and they tend to hold their value well.

Outdoor life is a big part of living here. Lake Poway, Blue Sky Ecological Reserve and the trail to Potato Chip Rock on Mount Woodson are all close to home. SR-67 and the I-15 make commuting manageable, with SR-56 nearby for trips toward the coast. The tradeoff is price: Poway's space and schools come at a premium compared with many inland areas.
